Chance you will be surcharged, cities -- Washington: 100.0% Chicago: 94.3% Philadelphia: 81.3% United States median: 77.9% Denver: 76.1% New York: 64.4% Dallas: 59.8% Los Angeles: 59.2% San Francisco: 54.8%: Boston: 36.2%

Hints to keep ATM costs down while traveling:
- Use a branch of your own bank.
- S&Ls are less likely to have an ATM surcharge
- ATMs in theme parks, gas stations and hotels often have the highest surcharge, avoid these if possible.
- Take out more money so you make fewer trips to the ATM—i.e. take out $100 one time, not $20 five times.
